The vocabulary of broadband device management, defined once, plainly, in one place.

- ACS (Auto Configuration Server) The server-side component of TR-069 that remotely provisions, configures, monitors and upgrades broadband customer premises equipment.
- CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Any device at the subscriber edge that terminates the operator's service: ONT, router, mesh node, set-top box or gateway.
- GPON Gigabit Passive Optical Network: the ITU-T fibre access technology behind most FTTH deployments, with XGS-PON as its 10G successor.
- TR-181 (Device:2 Data Model) The Broadband Forum data model that defines the parameter tree an ACS or USP controller reads and writes on a device.
- USP (User Services Platform) The Broadband Forum TR-369 specification: a message-based, multi-controller successor to TR-069 for device and service management.
- Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) Activating a subscriber device with no manual configuration: the device powers on, identifies itself and receives its service profile automatically.
